“‘Senzuu’, a bedside clock that creates a physical interaction without turning
on a light to disturb a good night’s sleep. the time piece aims to emphasize the relationship between the senses and time telling. By using tactility as a main source of influence, the product encourages the user to utilize their fingers to feel the height of the tabs to figure out by which hour of the day it is. produced using 3D prints and copper plating, the device uses a simple suspension mechanism that triggers a sequence of tabs in correspondence to the time of day.”

Senzuu - Clock project; The idea behind the concept is to emphasise the interaction between the physical sensory of touch/feel and time. A bedside clock that you read the approximate time with while you’re half asleep as well as being universally designed so that it’s user-friendly for the visually impaired as well. Photos of our chaise longue project which spanned over 4 weeks and working progress photos. Our chaise longue was much like a cradle type chair utilizing a polygonal shapes to create a cradle feeling.

Drawings I did for my group’s chair project. My group consisted of 6 people. This project was largely experimental on the aspect of comfort, challenging the aspect of comfort and some what re-defining it.

Final photos of my second skin project, 3D printed claw finger anatomy and physical moving parts. The hand model was created using alginate and plaster; I made a cast of my hand by dipping my hand in a cup of alginate then filling that with plaster.

The Angler lamp was one of my second year projects. A gimmicky yet fun lamp which was designed to wobble around to encourage the user to interact with it. The lamp creates an interesting interaction between user and product through the ‘switch’ of the lamp which involves the user tying the shoe lace like wires together. The wobble/height of the light is adjustable.

The base of the lamp was made out of lasercut acrylic (Glass was intended for stabilisation) and cibatool (artificial wood) which was routed out on a modela. The adjustment mechanism is just two brass pipes (That I acquired from a model shop) and one smaller one slides into the larger one. The head of the lamp is made of a 3D printed base with holes which I then threaded piano wire into.

My ring project. 3D printed rings modelled from SolidWorks. This project was not aimed as looking at the aesthetic of a ring but rather than how it feels, the relationship between the ring and the human, the functionality and experience it leaves for the user.

We were directed to design and create 3 of these rings, in the photos there are only two because the third ring was sent to Shapeways in Germany to be 3D printed in metal so I did not arrive back in time for marking.

My anatomy project. We had to recreate a chosen joint from the human body. This is an elbow. Made from three spheres that sit inside each other and the wire representing the forearm bones. I used a rubber print to represent and highlight the wrinkling of skin when the arm is extended.

The bottle I designed to investigate, experiment and mimic with blow molding. The method I used to make this bottle; I had to make a bottle shape mold using a lathe, I then cut that in half and vacuum formed the shape twice, glued the pieces together to make the bottle. The lid of the bottle was made in SolidWorks but with the exception that the design could be injection molded like modern plastic bottle lids.

This was the prototype pen I designed for my second year design project for INDN 211, we had to base the design around a central theme which we were given options to. The pen was designed in Solidworks (CAD program) then put into a CNC lathe. Materials I used were aluminum and plastic, the plastic part at the end of the pen I made using a manual lathe.
